Trademark Application Filed for the “Panama Papers”

The application was filed in Germany by the owner of a marketing agency, Reini Putscher, who did so just a day after the data leak became public. Putscher said this was a unique historical event that needed to be recorded. His intent is to create a brand of the scandal; in addition, he plans to make a film and sell various merchandise related to the brand. Putscher does not deny that he plans to register the trademark outside Germany as well.

Experts say the application is sure to raise multiple issues and all eyes are currently on the German Patent Office, awaiting their reaction.
