Counterfeit wine dealer sentenced to 10 years in the US

The counterfeiter, who conned millions of dollars out of wine collectors, was sentenced to prison in New York.

According to the court ruling, Rudy Kurniawan, also known as Dr Conti, committed his crimes from 2004 to 2012. Using a clever scam, he would sell counterfeit bottles filled with cheap wine, advertising them as rare and expensive fine wines. Suspicions arose when Kurniawan supplied bottles allegedly produced in 1959 and 1971 with labels that were not used before 1976.
